Hi, I’m Kim. Welcome to Picture Kitchen Studio!
Are you looking for expressive characters that will emotionally connect and captivate young readers? Looking for vivid illustrations that provide that special spark of excitement in storytelling?
I believe in creating book characters that kids will love and adults will have fun reading as well.
“A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest.”
― C.S. Lewis
Why is that so? Because when something is good, true, and beautiful, it is something that all can enjoy! Everyone, no matter what age loves a great story and especially one that has illustrations that bolster and illuminate the reader’s imagination.
The Target…
My aim is to illustrate picture books, design books covers, and create characters for you that are thoughtful and reach the heart of your reader. It is my great delight to serve you because you need good art and the world needs it as well.
Where I came from…
As a kid, I developed a pretty strong imagination – we never went on vacations and for a time we did not even have a TV. Oh did I complain! But interestingly, the lack of the things that I longed for helped strengthen my imagination, inventiveness and it was a blessing that I did not get everything I wanted. And so, that is what I draw from when creating the expressions and feelings needed for characters be they child, bird, or dust bunny!
Upon graduation from the Art Institute of Philadelphia, I worked for DC Cook Publishing designing primary-age children’s teaching aids. In time, I found that though I enjoyed design, I found my calling creating children’s illustrations for talented people like you.
I believe art is a “calling” and that God bestows his gifts through everyday people.
R.J. Grunwald says it best, “God is busy about his work in the midst of your work whether you realize it or not. The laundry, the spreadsheets, the phone calls, and the cups of coffee are all deeply spiritual because God is at work in the world. He is serving your family, your coworkers, and your community through the work you do. God is at work providing “daily bread” through the work that you do, no matter what that work is.”
When I’m not illustrating you might find me: learning a new skill, watching my tiny hummingbird friends, baking cakes, growing and making things, writing stories, hunting for treasure, and enjoying my family in Southern, NJ.
I look forward to working with you!
